Let me be the first to say, this lady sure can sing. I really hope she makes it.

Incredible. I actually hated “Just Dance”, but after I saw her perform “Poker Face” on American Idol (with the piano at the beginning), I was sold.

Also: Girl has some legit piano skills!

Prelude in G Minor, Op. 23 No. 5 by Rachmaninoff

At work last week I was looking for music to play at my desk, and I rediscovered Rachmaninoff preludes. This is one of my favorites — the transition from the strong, almost military feel of the first section to the lyrical middle section just gets me. Total eargasm. (Listen up to at least 1:40 to hear what I’m talking about!)

Bach’s Suite No. 01 in G Major - Yo-Yo Ma

Oh cello, you slay me.

Mmmm…good way to end the day.

Sarah McLachlan - Angel

This week is really just not my week. I consider myself a fairly positive and upbeat person, but right now I just feel like a failure.

I haven’t listened to this song in a long time, but I heard it on the radio on my way home tonight, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ll be good as new tomorrow — at least, that’s what I need to tell myself.

spend all your time waiting for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there’s always some reason to feel not good enough
and it’s hard at the end of the day
i need some distraction, oh beautiful release
memories seep from my veins
let me be empty, oh and weightless and maybe i’ll find some peace tonight…

Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

hey, don’t write yourself off yet
it’s only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
just try your best, try everything you can
and don’t you worry what they tell themselves when you’re away.

It’s an oldie but a goodie.

Travis - Love Will Come Through

Heard this while walking through Downtown Silver Spring this evening. They actually have good taste in music down there!

love will come through, it’s just waiting for you

Youth Group - Forever Young

I like Alphaville’s original, but I love Youth Group’s update — it seems a little more lost, listless and, well, young. I’m pretty sure this cover was featured in an episode of The O.C.

Just thought I’d show the song itself a little love after hearing it sampled on Jay-Z’s new song.

I heard this on the radio today. I think I’m going to have to start listening to my Lauryn Hill mp3s again.

Chris Botti - What’ll I Do? (featuring Paula Cole)

I’m contemplating going to Chris Botti’s concert at the Kennedy Center at the end of October, so I’m listening to what music of Chris’ I have.

I became obsessed with this song in high school after watching the 1974 film adaption of The Great Gatsby — it was the score for a good part of the movie.

babe ruth would tell me to keep my chin up, kid. ghandi would tell me to stay calm. and lennon/mccartney would pass me a joint and remind me that life goes on.

They’d also tell you to let it be. :)
